Every Mala kaftan is made by a small community of skilled artisans in Thailand: family members, neighbours, and trusted makers who have been sewing together for years. We pay fairly, work slowly, and believe that when the people making your clothes are thriving, you can feel it in every stitch.
This is the third tie dye caftan I’ve ordered during the heatwave. Delivery took a while but it’s here and its lovely. Rayon fabric is great in the heat and the colours are beautiful.

I bought this kaftan and another color for a dear friend of mine and she loved it. She told me she’s been getting lots of compliments on it. She instantly put it on when I gave it to her and it fit great, plenty of room for a plus size hourglass frame! She looked lovely, but above all else COMFORTABLE. I know she will be living in this thing for a long time. Standing at 5’2, the 48” was perfect. It came down to a little above the ankle, base of the shin and she said that was the perfect length for her so she doesn’t trip. The item came quickly. I did put in a request for alterations to have one of the kaftans taken from 50” to 48”, I messaged the seller and they were helpful and they gave me the shipping expectation. Everything came in early, which gave me plenty of time to wrap it in pretty paper. 10/10

Colors are much different in person. Not nearly as bright as shown in photos. I was picturing a bright pink with turquoise. In actuality I would describe the main color as mauve or rose. What I pictured as turquoise is actually navy blue. This is my second purchase from this shop, the first kaftan I purchased was much closer to the colors shown in photos.

It’s a muted, muddy salmon pink, not unattractive, just not as expected. I have 4 dresses from this seller and the other 3 are exactly as pictured. I do like that some dresses like this one, come in shorter lengths. This is a gift for my sister who is only 4” 10”. Fits perfectly on her!

We try to photograph as true to color as we can. Since all these pieces are hand-tied and dyed, each kaftan will vary slightly.
Our kaftans are one size fits most - up to 3XL with the standard being 68" around bust/waist/hips. That being said, we do offer a petite collection with slimmer silhouettes.

Not to be ghoulish, but I needed burial clothing for my partner and me for green burial. This means no plastic of any sort, even threads. I am exceedingly happy with the kaftans; they are well made and also lovely. It took quite a bit of reseach and I am SO GLAD I found Mala.
